“The Democrat Party is Collapsing”: Republicans Get Great News as Longtime Democrat Leader Throws in the Towel and Resigns

Conservatives are celebrating online following the announcement of Randi Weingarten’s resignation as President of the American Federation of Teachers. Weingarten, a prominent figure within the Democratic National Committee, cited her concerns about being “out of step” with the committee’s noticeable shift in direction.

To provide context, on June 5, Weingarten sent a letter to Ken Martin, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, declaring her resignation after 23 years of service. This decision was based on what Politico referred to as “fundamental disagreements” with Martin. In reaction, conservative commentator Nick Sortor expressed his views on X, stating, “The Democrat Party is collapsing before our eyes.”

In her correspondence, Weingarten emphasized her belief in the Democratic Party’s “vital role in America,” noting that the current version of the party has tirelessly fought for justice, freedom, and opportunity for all Americans. Nevertheless, she highlighted that the Democrats’ mission is “under attack like never before.”

Weingarten further articulated that the Democratic Party is involved in an “existential battle,” which she claimed is being fought by Democrats who dedicate their lives to safeguarding children and communities while creating pathways for a better future for all Americans. She remarked that, “given the work ahead of us,” she would decline re-appointment, while affirming her pride in being a Democrat.

Additionally, the veteran DNC member expressed her belief that she is “out of step with the leadership” that Chair Martin is establishing, stating, “I do not want to be the one who keeps questioning why we are not enlarging our tent and actively trying to engage more and more of our communities.” She concluded her letter by asserting that her organization “will continue to be a leader in electing pro-public education, pro-working family candidates.”

On Twitter, conservative commentator Nick Sortor announced Weingarten’s resignation, stating that it “comes after a spat with DNC Chair Ken Martin.” He expressed his enjoyment of the situation, saying, “I’m enjoying every second of this. I’m just disappointed David Hogg is no longer Vice Chair.” Furthermore, Sortor contended, “The teachers’ union is the ONLY reason a red state like Kentucky has a Democrat governor,” and added, “If they stray from the Democrat party, the Dems are toast.”

Significantly, as noted by Nick Sortor, Weingarten’s resignation occurred just before the removal of 25-year-old activist David Hogg, the former vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, by other DNC members on June 11, 2025. According to Politico, Hogg reacted to his dismissal by stating that there is a “fundamental disagreement about the role of Vice Chair” within the committee, adding, “And it’s okay to have disagreements.”

To clarify his stance, Hogg reportedly remarked, “What isn’t okay is allowing this to remain our focus when there is so much more we need to be focused on.” Additionally, DNC Chair Ken Martin, who had differing views from Hogg on significant matters, released a statement praising Hogg “for his years of activism.” He further stated, “I appreciate his service as an officer, his hard work, and his dedication to the party.”
