Former CIA Director John Brennan—one of the principal architects of the now-discredited Russia hoax—experienced a complete meltdown this week on MSNBC as the pressure mounts around him. Confronted with a possible criminal referral regarding what many perceive as blatant falsehoods to Congress, Brennan discarded any semblance of innocence and instead reverted to his usual strategy: blaming Trump and lamenting about “authoritarianism.”
During his appearance on MSNBC’s Deadline on July 9, Brennan delivered a theatrical performance that could easily qualify for a Hollywood audition, likening his own legal predicaments to political persecution in communist China and Putin’s Russia. Yes, indeed.
“It’s so sad and tragic,” Brennan lamented. “This is the authoritarian playbook.” He even asserted, without a hint of irony, that his circumstances reflect what transpires in dictatorships such as China, Hungary, and Russia. Forget the fact that he is the one accused of misusing intelligence authority to target a legitimately elected U.S. president — he is, apparently, the true victim here.
What Brennan fails to acknowledge is that he is under investigation not for his political beliefs, but for his purported false statements under oath and his pivotal role in perpetuating the unfounded Trump-Russia narrative — a hoax that subjected the nation to years of discord, squandered taxpayer resources, and a weaponized federal bureaucracy aimed at undermining a sitting president.
Rather than justifying his actions, Brennan embraced the left’s worn-out narrative that accountability equates to oppression. “I truly am very concerned,” he remarked, “that what we are witnessing now in this chapter of American history is a lamentable decline in respect for the rule of law.”
It is amusing how suddenly “rule of law” has become significant—now that he finds himself under scrutiny.
Brennan, whose fingerprints are evident throughout the fabricated Steele dossier affair and the wider intelligence community’s efforts to tarnish President Trump, had the nerve to accuse Trump of “weaponizing” the DOJ and intelligence agencies. This accusation is particularly ironic coming from a man who led the CIA during one of the most politically charged periods in American intelligence history.
“If a President of the United States is prepared to weaponize intelligence and Justice,” he admonished, “we truly are in significant, significant trouble.”
In other words: “I’m fearful that the deep state may finally face repercussions.”
Brennan concluded his meandering MSNBC therapy session by asserting that Americans are “concerned” about the nation’s trajectory—not due to censorship, crime, inflation, or border turmoil—but because Trump might finally hold corrupt insiders like himself responsible.
He described the investigation into him as “indicative of a much larger ailment,” and then—without any self-awareness—asserted that America’s democratic values were at risk.
In truth, what is at risk is the unaccountable elite that Brennan embodies. For years, individuals like him have functioned in secrecy, manipulating events behind closed doors and utilizing the media as their protection. However, now, due to a new era of transparency and a renewed dedication to constitutional governance, individuals like Brennan are finally under examination.
And judging by his appearance on MSNBC, he is well aware of it.
