A disgraced J6 prosecutor broke down in tears before the Senate Judiciary Committee after her termination, which a conservative commentator described as the act of taking “political prisoners.” This conclusion was reached after it was revealed that her partisan views influenced her prosecution of individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, events at the U.S. Capitol Building.
For context, Sara Levine, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, provided testimony to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary on April 30, 2025, detailing her experiences with approximately 40 cases related to J6. Ms. Levine, who was reportedly dismissed from the Justice Department due to her work, wept publicly during her statement and attributed her firing to Trump Chief of Staff nominee Ed Martin, which provoked backlash from conservatives.
During her testimony, Ms. Levine recounted that upon leaving work on a Friday, she received a notification on her phone regarding a memo “that granted Mr. [Ed] Martin the authority to terminate probationary employees from the Capitol Siege Section who had been reassigned within the office.” She continued by stating that while she did not possess a list of the individuals mentioned in the memo, she suspected she was “likely on the list.”
Furthermore, Ms. Levine elaborated that following the receipt of the memo, she learned that “15 U.S. attorneys and assistant U.S. attorneys had been dismissed,” herself included. Levine remarked, “The termination letter I received indicated that the decision was based on your actions and the prosecution of individuals connected to the events that transpired at or near the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.”
Continuing, Levine elaborated that in an Executive Order issued in 2025, President Trump had described her work as having involved a serious national injustice that has been inflicted upon the American populace over the past four years. She further stated, It continued to assert that my appointment has obstructed the capacity of the acting U.S. Attorney Martin to adequately staff his office and fulfill his duty to faithfully execute the agenda that the American electorate chose President Trump to implement.
Concluding her remarks in tears, Levine expressed that according to the termination letter she received, Mr. Martin does not grasp the function of a prosecutor. The former attorney continued, U.S. attorneys represent the United States of America, not the president dismissing 15 competent attorneys.
When conservative commentator Nick Sortor disseminated the footage of Levine’s emotional testimony, he showed no compassion, remarking, Cry more, you witch. Sortor added, If it were my decision, you’d be incarcerated for your actions against the J6ers. In reaction, conservatives mirrored Sortor’s views in the comments section, with influencer Sarah Smith stating, I have no sympathy for Sara Levine! Her actions were intolerable! Sortor responded, What she did was imprison political dissidents.
Moreover, in a statement issued by the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 30, 2025, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) leveraged Levine’s dismissal against Ed Martin, asserting that Mr. Martin had consistently criticized law enforcement officials who ensured the safety of members and staff during the January 6 insurrection, as well as the Assistant U.S. Attorneys tasked with prosecuting the rioters who violently assaulted police officers.
