Johnson Calls Trump’s BBB ‘Most Conservative Legislation We’ve Ever Worked On’

House Speaker Mike Johnson is praising President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” as “the most conservative legislation we’ve ever worked on.”

In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Johnson discussed the House Republicans’ intentions to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill and present Trump’s complete agenda to the American populace.

“85 to 90% of this bill is the product generated by the House. The Senate made some adjustments to it, making it more conservative in certain areas while moderating it slightly in others. However, as the President articulated so well today, this is no longer merely a House bill or a Senate bill; it is the bill of the hardworking American people,” Johnson stated.

“And we are committed to delivering it, as you mentioned, Sean, by July 4th. This is of utmost importance. Remember, we received a clear mandate from the people in November to accomplish this. President Trump campaigned on a distinct set of priorities and promises, and we did as well. This is the means to deliver it. We are nearing that finish line,” Johnson added.

“We are at the one-yard line in this game that has been played for over a year. We have worked on this for approximately 14 months to reach this stage. We are going to push it right up the middle and score for the American people. I assure you, everyone will benefit from this bill, Sean. As you pointed out, all those features make it the most conservative piece of legislation we’ve ever worked on. It is also important to mention that while we are implementing historic tax cuts, we are simultaneously achieving historic savings. We are set to save $1.6 trillion for the American people,” he continued.

“We will reduce the size and scope of government, enhance its efficiency, and ensure it serves the people better. They demand and deserve that, and the Republicans are making it happen,” Johnson asserted.

He stated, “However, when discussing Medicaid, it is essential to ensure that the program is maintained for its intended beneficiaries. This includes, for instance, the elderly, the disabled, and young pregnant mothers who are facing hardships. Therefore, we achieve this by reinstating work requirements. If you are a young able-bodied man, your role should be to contribute to the effort, rather than simply benefiting from it.”

“Consequently, we have implemented a widely supported provision that mandates individuals receiving Medicaid to demonstrate that they are either employed, actively seeking employment, or volunteering in their community for a minimum of 20 hours per week. While this should ideally be more extensive, it serves as a basic requirement that will significantly mitigate program abuse and strengthen support for those who genuinely need it. We take great pride in this initiative. Moreover, the American public is in favor of it. It is a practical measure,” Johnson remarked.

“Reflect on the initial two years of the Trump administration. Following that period, we achieved the most robust economy in history, which was unparalleled prior to the COVID pandemic. Every demographic and region in the country experienced improvement due to a combination of tax reductions and regulatory relief. We intend to replicate this success, this time with an enhanced bill. It will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, benefiting everyone,” Johnson asserted.

“We project that the average American will see an increase of $10,000 in take-home pay as a result of this legislation. There will be no taxes on tips or overtime earnings. Additionally, seniors will benefit from tax reductions due to a credit they will receive, particularly those on social security,” he added.

Johnson concluded, “This bill contains provisions that, as the President mentioned today, cater to everyone. It represents sound policy that will bolster the economy, assist the American populace, and fulfill the commitments of the America First agenda.”
